HB 4015 Passes Committee; Moves on to House Floor for Vote

-->

Today, the House Criminal Justice Committee took the first step towards guaranteeing ticket fairness for Michigan fans. At a hearing this morning, the committee passed HB 4015 on to the House floor.

This is great news for Michigan fans. Now is the time to write your lawmaker to urge them to move the bill on to the senate today.

As summer concert series begin, the Red Wings look toward the playoffs and the Tigers take the diamond, fans need ticket fairness now more than ever.

Michigan’s outdated law bans fan-to-fan ticket resale at a fair value, and instead creates a state-sanctioned monopoly in the secondary ticket market for companies like Ticketmaster and StubHub. We believe that a fair value includes all of the taxes and fees paid on the initial transaction. At a minimum, fans should be allowed to recover these expenses and not be forced to take a loss if they need to resell their tickets.

Ticket companies and venues were out in full force throwing their weight around trying to convince committee members that HB 4015 would harm consumers. But committee members saw through the smoke and mirrors – HB 4015 simply decriminalizes a normal consumer behavior.

This bill WILL NOT open the door to more bots or increase fraud. As was mentioned during the hearing, ticket fraud would still be ticket fraud – allowing fans to recoup the full cost of their ticket does not change that.

The fight, however, is far from over. Now, more than ever, it’s important to tell your legislator to support HB 4015. Ticket companies and venues are sure to step up their pressure so it’s important that fans do the same.

Tell your legislator to support a free secondary ticket market. Urge them to stand with fans, not ticket companies and venues, and support HB 4015.
